How to Install Marathi Font in Microsoft Word

Install, type and format Marathi fonts in MS Word on Windows and Mac. Step-by-step with troubleshooting.

Before you start

Microsoft Word has built-in Unicode support for Marathi, but you need the right font installed. This guide walks you through installing Unicode Marathi fonts (Mangal, Tiro Devanagari) and legacy fonts (Kruti Dev, Shree Lipi) in Word.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Download a Marathi font. Visit our font library, pick a font (Mangal for Unicode, AMS Manthan for calligraphy), click Download TTF.
  2. Install on Windows. Right-click the downloaded .ttf file → Install (or Install for all users for admins).
  3. Install on Mac. Double-click the .ttf file → Font Book opens → click Install Font.
  4. Open Word. Close and reopen Microsoft Word so it picks up the newly installed font.
  5. Select the font. Click the Font dropdown in the Home tab and scroll to the Marathi font name.
  6. Type in Marathi. Enable Marathi keyboard (Windows: Settings → Language → Marathi) or paste Unicode text from our generator.
  7. Format and save. Format your Marathi text as usual. When saving as PDF, embed the font: File → Options → Save → tick "Embed fonts in this file".
